BERLIN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

1. We may be able to receive regular visitors at our new Ashrama from Monday, 03 July 2023.
2. The lift in the new house may be installed before August.
3. The marble image (statue) of Sri Ramakrishna will be installed in the new shrine, most probably in the last weeks of August.
4. If everything goes well by God's grace, we are thinking of organizing the opening event from Wednesday, 6 September 2023, the holy birthday of Sri Krishna to 10 September.

For nearly sixteen years, the Vedanta-Gesellschaft has operated with the goal of establishing a permanent centre to fulfill the objectives of its charter in a better way. The spiritual guidance is recieved from the resident monks of the Ramakrishna-Order. During this period, careful consideration was given to evaluate the following:

1. The needs of people in this part of the globe and how they might be met within the scope of the local cultural tradition,
2. Building up a core group of local volunteers to support this effort, and
3. Finding a suitable location in Germany for a permanent centre for easy access to the youth.

As we are committed to building up an institution which will outlive all of us by far, these considerations have been made slowly and patiently, for a period of not less than sixteen years. As a result, we have now decided that the time is right for the construction of a permanent centre where the Gesellschaft can conduct activities for participation of the general public, and that its location will be in Berlin.

Location

For the construction of a permanent centre, the Society has acquired a plot of land in Berlin-Marienfelde, located at Marienfelder Allee 73. This location is ideally connected to the rest of Berlin via U-Bahn, S-Bahn and Bus. As a mixed residential and commercial use area, this location also allows flexibility in conducting public events. The architects haus.architekten of Berlin have been engaged for the project.

Project Status

Plans for the construction project have been submitted for approval to the building inspection authorities of Schöneberg-Tempelhof district. Work on the detailed implementation plans is done and the work began in July 2021.

Planning and Construction

Although we have made a Master Plan for the whole Ashrama with two buildings, due mainly to financial constraints we will not be able to realize the whole project now. We will take up construction of the first planned building which is a main house with spaces for seminars and public events, as well as accommodation for monastics and guests.

Main House

The main house will include two levels, plus cellar and loft. Public activities such as seminars and worship will be conducted on the ground floor of this building.
