  • Introduction

"Living in solitude now and then, repeating God’s name and singing His glories, and discriminating between the Real and the unreal -these are the means to employ to realize God." -Sri Ramakrishna-

"If you practise spiritual discipline for some time in a solitary place you will find that your mind has become strong, and then you can live in any place or society without being in the least affected by it." -Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi-

The Ashrama in Bindweide is situated in a peaceful countryside. It is approachable by road in about one and a half hours from Frankfurt and Cologne. The nearest railway station 'Betzdorf (Sieg)' is about 9 kilometres away from the house on the Siegen-Cologne railway line. It has accommodation for people who want to spend good time in the spiritual company of noble minds. The retreats held here are meant for providing congenial atmosphere as far as possible to people belonging to any religion, gender, colour or nationality in order to get back to their own eternal values and self-worth. After attending a retreat people may find themselves returning home loving their own self more.

  • PROGRAMMES FOR 2017 IN BINDWEIDE

  • Retreat in October (13 - 15) 2017 with Swami Sunirmalananda of Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre, Amstelveen, Netherlands.

Topic: Transforming Reaction into Understanding: the Yoga Way.
(As usual, the discourses will be translated sentence-for-sentence into German.
Kindly enrol yourself well in advance so as to help us arrange for your accommodation in or near the Ashrama.)

In spiritual life the way is to change ourselves, to change our own reaction to things. It is our reaction that makes all the trouble. It is our own mind, the way we look at things, that causes all our misery. What we perceive de-pends upon the condition of our own mind. So unless there is some change within ourselves, we cannot hope to change the objects of our perception. Therefore, says Yoga, ‘Don’t try to change the outside. Make the change within yourself. A little change in the mind and you will become a different person.’
A spiritual person should have no ani-mosity for anyone. In seeing faults in others we are strengthening the same faults in ourselves. It is a vicious cycle and a psychological fact. And it is also a fact that if we change our own mind, other people will change too.
Vedanta says things are almost wholly inside – how we feel, how we react – and this is what determines our condition. This universe is like a mirror. We see the world as we are now. ‘One sees everything according to the quality in one’s eyes.’ Because we don’t know ourselves and others, all sorts of problems arise and we become confused.
Our present perception and under-standing is only skin deep. When we address a person, we address the skin. But the only right approach to another person is to look upon that person as God – because that is the truth! Behind the form is the effulgent God Himself. When we treat others as God, as the Self, all sense of separation, fear, hatred, and jealousy will vanish forever from our heart.
Swami Sunirmalananda of Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre, Amstelveen, Netherlands, will conduct a three-day interactive retreat on the above subject.

  • Retreat in November (17 - 19) 2017 with Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda.

Topic: Nine Types of Adoration of God.
(As usual, the discourses will be translated sentence-for-sentence into German.
Kindly enrol yourself well in advance so as to help us arrange for your accommodation in or near the Ashrama.)

Bhakti yoga is said to be the easiest path to at-tain God. It is the approach to God through love. The devotee makes a continual conscious effort to love God and to feel God’s love for him. To this end, he repeats God’s name and per-forms ritual worship. In order to have a partic-ular object for his worship, he fixes his mind upon one chosen aspect of God or one out of the several divine incarnations. The great teachers assure us however that, as the devotee’s devotion grows, he will become more and more aware that he is actually worshipping the God within himself which is his own true nature. In the supreme state of bhakti, worshipper and worshipped are realized as one.
Compared with the three other yogas, the practice of bhakti yoga appears far simpler, less austere, and more inviting. Because, while we may not have the exceptional energy, intel-lect, or concentration that those yogas demand, we are all firmly convinced that we are capable of love. Therefore we readily accept that bhakti is the easiest of the yogas.
We are by nature emotional beings. We desire, and find ways of fulfilling our desires. This constitutes our life. We must love some-thing or somebody. If we do not love God, the Essence of truth, goodness, and beauty, we will love matter and its passing, illusory forms. Our happiness depends upon the nature of the object on which we set our hearts. The only true and worthy object of love is the Lord.
Love of God manifests itself in various ways through the feelings, thoughts, conduct, and actions of the devotee. The Bhagavatam describes nine aspects of divine love.
Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda of Vedanta Gesellschaft will jointly conduct a three-day interactive retreat on the above subject.

  • Year-end Spiritual Camp 2017 - 18 (28 December 2017 to 1 January 2018) with Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda

A five-day intensive spiritual camp for 2017-18 with Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda. The programme will include, among other things, meditation, reading from the Bible and other holy books, spiritual discourses, devotional singing and silence.

(As usual, the discourses will be translated sentence-for-sentence into German.
Kindly enrol yourself well in advance so as to help us arrange for your accommodation in or near the Ashrama.)

It happens every time that the New Year brings to us the message of peace, happiness and fulfilment. We learn a lot from our past successes and failures, strengths and weaknesses, gains and losses, and press on with renewed vigour to make the New Year one of greater success and happier achievements.
Still, one important question remains: Are we going to repeat the same life again? Surely not – not exactly! We want to make this New Year better. And to actualize this, we must begin right now, even at the end of this year itself, and continue to work for peace and harmony within and without for ever and ever.
With this idea in view, Vedanta Gesellschaft is yet again organizing a year-end retreat in Bindweide starting on 28 December 2017 and spilling over to 1 January 2018. We try to offer you a quiet time during these five days at this retreat place by the woods, in the lap of Mother Nature. We hope you will be able to spend quality time in discussion and reflection, contemplation and meditation. May your stay in such an atmosphere help you reinvigorate your inner and outer being, and fill your mind and body with fresh energy for the New Year!
