  • Introduction

"Living in solitude now and then, repeating God’s name and singing His glories, and discriminating between the Real and the unreal -these are the means to employ to realize God." -Sri Ramakrishna-

"If you practise spiritual discipline for some time in a solitary place you will find that your mind has become strong, and then you can live in any place or society without being in the least affected by it." -Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi-

The Ashrama in Bindweide is situated in a peaceful countryside. It is approachable by road in about one and a half hours from Frankfurt and Cologne. The nearest railway station 'Betzdorf (Sieg)' is about 9 kilometres away from the house on the Siegen-Cologne railway line. It has accommodation for people who want to spend good time in the spiritual company of noble minds. The retreats held here are meant for providing congenial atmosphere as far as possible to people belonging to any religion, gender, colour or nationality in order to get back to their own eternal values and self-worth. After attending a retreat people may find themselves returning home loving their own self more.

  • PROGRAMMES FOR 2017 IN BINDWEIDE

  • Retreat in April (7 - 9) 2017 in Bindweide with Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda

    Topic: The Power of Habit.
(As usual, the discourses will be translated sentence-for-sentence into German.
Kindly enrol yourself well in advance so as to help us arrange for your accommodation in or near the Ashrama.)

What we think, we do; and what we do repeatedly, we become. Habits are the small thoughts we think and actions we perform every day. And what we are now is essentially the sum of our habits. Happy or unhappy, successful or unsuccessful, we are largely a result of our habits. Our thoughts and beliefs, intentions and actions have made us what we are.
All of us want to improve and become better. But when we attempt to change ourselves, we find that we are captives of our own deep-seated habits. That is because habits are fixed ways of thinking or acting acquired subconsciously over time. However, this need not discourage us. Old bad habits can be eliminated and replaced with new good ones, provided we want the change badly enough.
Which means we have to bring more self-awareness into our daily lives. Our behaviour is simply a reflection of our identity. So if we want to change our behaviour fundamentally, we need to start believing in new things about ourselves; we need a new self-image. Changing our beliefs is not as hard as we might think: What type of person do I really want to be? Once that is decided, the next step is to prove it – to oneself – little by little.
Rather than attempt something amazing at the beginning, it is wise to start small and improve gradually. Along the way, our will power and motivation will increase, making the progress easier to sustain and the formation of new habits an accomplished task.
Swami Baneshananda and Swami Bhaswatananda of Vedanta Gesellschaft will jointly conduct a three-day interactive retreat on the above subject.

  • Retreat in May (19 - 21) 2017 in Bindweide with Swami Purnananda of Eire Vedanta Society, Dublin 7, Ireland.

Topic: The Game of Guiding Thoughts.
(As usual, the discourses will be translated sentence-for-sentence into German.
Kindly enrol yourself well in advance so as to help us arrange for your accommodation in or near the Ashrama.)

Why is the mind so restless? If somebody were to ask us why we are so restless, we would find it hard to say why. In our present state we understand things better objectively, because our existence is so objective. We can see things outside more clearly than things within. It is only after we have made a good deal of progress that our view becomes subjective and we begin to see within ourselves.
But why should the mind behave the way it does? What is it that makes it so unmanageable? What is it that causes us to do things that we later regret doing?
We take for granted that if we give the mind what it wants, it will be quiet. But that is not true at all. The mind clamours for things and we take the trouble of giving it those things. But after a little while it is dissatisfied with them. It is as if all that the mind wants is make us work for it! As soon as we have done one thing, dissatisfaction sets in and we are made to do another thing. This is the way it is. Then what is the way out?
In order to find lasting peace and happiness, we need to learn the art of handling the mind intelligently. Our old ways of thinking – which have brought us to our present condition – have to be replaced by fresh, life-giving ones. And to do this successfully, three things are necessary: a spiritual ideal in life, self-control, and detachment. Rarely does anyone attain to a quieter state of mind without learning how to guide thought.
Swami Purnananda, spiritual director of Eire Vedanta Society, Dublin, Ireland, and an engaging writer and speaker, will conduct a three-day interactive retreat on the above subject.
